Group Program Instructor

Part-Time Position with both weekday and weekend availability

Our Group Program Instructors lead activities like hiking, swamp and stream study, boating, archery, songs, survival, and more - but no experience is necessary! We have a great training program that will prepare you to feel confident and lead groups in experiential education. The Group Program Instructor will prepare program areas and instruct participants in all activities assigned. It is essential to ensure the safety of participants, proper use of camp equipment, and proper use of camp facilities. Provide an enjoyable experience to participants.

Environmental Education Instructor

The Environmental Educator is responsible for teaching and leading different classes and activities that include: leading outdoor academic classes using a science-based curriculum, team-building, and recreational activities such as boating, archery, orienteering, and campfires. The Environmental Education Instructor will prepare program areas and instruct participants in all classes assigned. It is essential to ensure the safety of participants, proper use of camp equipment, and proper use of camp facilities. Provide an enjoyable experience to participants.

Environmental Educators are creative educators who are enthusiastic and have the desire to teach children and increase their interest and knowledge in the environment.

Paid Internships

Required Experience:

  • Interns should be students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • All Interns must have proper authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

What you should know about the Metro YMCA Internship Program:

  • The 2023-2024 Internship Program runs during the course of a student's college semester, however, this schedule is flexible based on college schedules. Internship students can be undergraduate or graduate level students. 
  • Intern must be able to work weekday hours as well as some nights and weekends.
  • Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, 1035 FAIRVIEW LAKE RD, NEWTON, New Jersey, United States of America.
  • Depending on the internship program, housing at the facility may be provided. 
  • This is a paid Internship, however, credit can be given when necessary and federal work-study students are welcome to apply.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, all Interns will be given the opportunity to use the skills they've learned throughout the session to put together an individual presentation and also work on collaborative group projects. The presentation and group project topics will focus on ways to improve processes, products, designs, and programs at the YMCA.

Kitchen Positions

Kitchen Assistant

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting the cooks and Food Service Director in the kitchen and dining halls ensuring the kitchen is clean and efficiently operational. The Kitchen Assistant may assist in the preparation of ingredients under the guidance of cooks and the Food Service Director.

Assistant Cook

Under the direction of the Food Service Director and the Evening Supervisor, the Assistant Cook is responsible for all phases of the meal for which he/she is scheduled and for contributing to a quality food service facility, exhibiting excellent customer service practices, and to maintain the kitchen and dining hall under clean and sanitary conditions.

Day Camp

Blue Mountain Day Camp

Ready for an amazing summer? Become a camp counselor! Our staff spends the day on the lake, playing sports, teaching archery, and more. With competitive pay, weekends off, and a fun workplace, you can't find a better job in Stillwater Township! 

Junior Counselors (Under 18) 

The Junior Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting Counselors and Senior Counselors in the supervision, guidance, and direction of the campers in small and large groups. The Junior Counselor helps children adjust to camp according to camp rules and safety precautions. The Junior Counselor is a source of friendship, guidance, and positive redirection to the campers. The incumbent will support the efforts of the Camp Director, Specialist, Senior Counselors, and Counselors in all aspects of the camp.

Counselor

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Lake in the Woods Day Camp

Spend an amazing summer at an amazing site! Lake in the Woods Day Camp is located on the beautiful 600-acre campus of Blair Academy. We'll have access to the great facilities the school has to offer, like Tennis, Ceramics, Yoga studios and more. We need great staff to make these programs happen!

Sleepaway Camp

Are you looking for a position that will help you gain valuable skills for future careers? Do you love working outdoors? A Camp Counselor position might be perfect for you. Nowhere else will you learn leadership, time management, scheduling, conflict resolution, team building, and teaching skills. You'll be a role model for youth and work closely with your peers to provide extraordinary experiences for your campers. Hundreds of people with successful careers attribute their flexibility, planning, and group management skills to their time as camp counselors. 

Before you apply for a summer position at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, please familiarize yourself with our calendar for 2023. Information for International Staff: If you are not a US citizen, you must obtain a J-1 Visa to be considered for employment at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps. Current laws prohibit us from hiring international staff under the age of 18. We partner with CCUSA and CIEE for our international placement.

Apply to be a Camp Nurse!

Under the direction of, and in conjunction with, the Camp Director, the Nurse will oversee the safety and well-being of campers and staff. The Nurse will administer and maintain the camp infirmary for 24-hour operations. Will facilitate a friendly, healthy, and fun atmosphere while delivering a developmental program to assist child(ren) in personal growth, maturity, good hygiene and socialization. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required with a valid NJ nursing license.
