NEWTON, NJ - The YMCA will bring its long, rich history of providing memorable summer experiences to youth to a new group of campers in northwest New Jersey.

Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, a branch of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, will operate the weekday sleep-away camp Campus Kids in Blairstown beginning with the 2020 summer camp season.

“We are excited about this partnership with Campus Kids and the opportunity to expand our services to a new group of campers and families,” said Marc Koch, executive director of Fairview Lake YMCA Camps. “I look forward to getting to know the community of Blairstown and Campus Kids, and learning how the Y can help build on the unique facilities and programs already in place.”

Campus Kids is a 30-year-old co-ed weekday sleep-away camp on the rural campus of Blair Academy, a prominent boarding school in Warren County, not far from Fairview Lake. At Campus Kids, campers can choose between two, four, or six week stays. Campers spend Monday through Friday at camp, returning home to be with their families on the weekend.

The camp, like Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, is accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed by the state of New Jersey.

Families can expect the same programs and offerings at Campus Kids as they have in the past under the YMCA’s management, with additional resources and support from the Metro YMCA association. Tom Riddleberger, who served as Campus Kids owner-director, will work with the YMCA’s leadership as a consultant, and Assistant Director Jeremy Berse will be the new summer camp director of Campus Kids.

The YMCA is one of the largest providers of camp programs in the U.S., with 1.4 million children and adults attending camps nationwide each year. During its 104-year history, Fairview Lake YMCA Camps in Sussex County has provided fun, educational outdoor experiences for children and adults, including sleep-away summer camps for grades 2-11, environmental education for schools, family programs, and weekend retreats.

“Campus Kids shares the YMCA’s goal of providing positive, impactful experiences that help youth to realize their potential,” said Riddleberger. “Fairview Lake YMCA has a long tradition of running summer camps and I look forward to working together to further enhance Campus Kids.”
