Adventure Guides
Go with your child on a journey of discovery with YMCA Adventure Guides. The program allows busy parents/guardians to spend one-on-one time with their child in a fun environment. Its purpose is to foster a strong parent-child relationship through quality time spent together.
What do Adventure Guides do?
Adventure Guides provides opportunities for families to engage in activities that promote nature, family, fun, and community. Small groups, called Circles, of parent/guardian-child pairs, meet on a regular basis once a month. Each season (fall, winter, and spring) Circles should complete a service project, gather at someone’s home or go on an outing and attend a campout.
The Adventure Guide program runs from September to May.
Who can be in Adventure Guides?
We recommend children ages 5-12 with their parent/guardian.
What is a Circle and what are the obligations?
Circles are usually a group of friends and their parent/guardian. Typically they are composed of seven to ten parent/guardian and child pairs. Most circles meet about twice a month. The Navigator (circle leader) plans a monthly meeting and the YMCA Adventure Guide Director plans multiple, fun activities throughout the year as well.
How to Join?
Registering for Adventure Guides is easy! Select your home Y, to register. Once registration gets started we'll start to form circles - so make sure your friends register too! If your Y isn't listed below, or you're not a Y member, you can become an Adventure Guide through Fairview Lake YMCA Camps. Learn more about the FVL program HERE.
What are the Campouts Like?
Campouts are where the big moments happen! Campouts are held three times a year at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps. You'll arrive on Friday and settle in with your friends in your cabin. On Saturday, enjoy what Fairview Lake YMCA Camps has to offer during that season and end the night with a ceremony for those who are entering the program in the Fall and graduating out of the program in the Spring. On Sunday, we'll have a few more activities and then head back home with a better connection to each other.
