The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges uses charitable donations in four ways: the YMCA Financial Assistance Fund, Program Initiatives, General Operating Support, and Capital Projects.
YMCA Financial Assistance Fund
This fund provides direct financial assistance to deserving children and families who
otherwise would not be able to participate in our programs. Through this fund, our YMCA delivers on its promise “The YMCA is the local charity of choice. Financial assistance is available because at the Fairview Lake YMCA Camps & Conference Center no one is turned away due to their inability to pay”.
Last year, over $1,000,000 was awarded to over 3,800 children and families for:
Child or Family Memberships
Reduced or waived program fees
Childcare Tuition Assistance
Summer Day and Sleep away “Camper”ship
Program Initiatives
The YMCA offers individuals, corporations and foundations several sponsorship and
underwriting opportunities for key YMCA program initiatives. Here is a partial list of
programs and initiatives that are underwritten at our YMCA.
Activate America
CATCH
College Tour
Leaders Club
Minority Achievers

General Operating Support
Through our General Operating Support funds we are able to keep the costs of
membership and program affordable while maintaining program quality and delivery.
By donating to General Operating Support, you provide the YMCA with maximum
flexibility to address funding gaps for programs and services as needed.
In 2009, our YMCA will subsidize $1,410,288 in program costs.
Capital Projects
Each year, the YMCA makes significant capital improvements to all its branches
and facilities. By donating to the YMCA’s capital fund, you can help us to keep our
facilities current and up to date for years to come.
This year, the Metro YMCAs of the Oranges will invest over $800,000 in land, building and equipment improvements at our branch facilities.
